The Instagram Game: Do You Play It?

The Instagram Game: Do You Play It?

I seem to have a love/hate relationship with Instagram at the moment. I feel like a lot of users are taking advantage of smaller accounts so that they reap the benefits of a larger social following.

I don’t know about you guys, but I only tend to follow Instagram accounts which I am generally interested in, unless they are another blogger, because us bloggers need all the help we can with boasting our online presence! So, if someone followers me, I am polite and following them back. However, recently I have noticed that the majority of the people I follow back will unfollow me within a matter of days. Like what is the point?

Why would you follow someone whose content isn’t something that you are interested in, in the first place? It drives me completely crazy.

I understand that everyone wants to up their Insta followers so that they look more attractive to PR companies, but I think playing this game is completely outrageous. I am new to the blogging community, and I can probably make a guess that this isn’t just a recent thing and has been going on for ages.

Since I have noticed this, it has made me not want to use the app at all because I just don’t think people are being genuine enough. However, this month I am going to try and make an effort to post more regularly. However, I know that Instagram’s algorithm has changed, meaning that our newsfeeds aren’t done in chronological order which has had an impact on smaller accounts.

Even though a boast a huge following of about 200 followers on Instagram, I thought I would share some tips for upping your Instagram game:

2 – Follow like-minded people.

3 – Interact with your audience.

4 – Start using Instagram stories to make your account more personal.

5 – Post high-quality images.

(Buying followers is completely pointless becauseĀ if a PR company saw you had 50K+ followers on Twitter and about 50-100 likes on your pictures, they will smell something fishy).

Unfortunately, this game also happens on Twitter, which is equally as annoying! Just be yourself and post interesting content and you will watch your social following grow! Let’s stop playing the follow/unfollow game as it is one of the most annoying things in the world.
