In my last blog post, I spoke about the fact I was taking the plunge and going vegan on October 1st. I was going to start by stop drinking milk and eating cheese and yoghurt, then in November I was going to make my diet completely plant-based, then in December I would stop using anything which has been tested on animals etc.- You can read about it all here.
So, my first week and a bit has been an odd one! When the first day came around, I haven’t really prepared myself with the right kinds of food, so I had blocks of cheese and yoghurts to eat; so, I basically stopped drinking milk, then had to use up all my non-vegan food. It isn’t actually what I had planned, but hey ho.
What I have Learnt so Far
So far, I have stopped drinking milk, and have opted for almond milk; which I think is delicious. I have changed my dairy yoghurts for Alpro’s incredible alternatives. As for the cheese, I tried Violifes cheese slices, and I’m going, to be honest; I just didn’t like them! I don’t know if it was because I was expecting it to taste like actual cheese but it just didn’t hit the spot!
I have also realised that it is so frustrating when you pick up something and you aren’t 100% sure that it is vegan or not- most vegetarian products are marked with a large ‘v’ but what about vegans? Anyway, when I am looking at the ingredients, I’m not sure what I am even looking for, so it is frustrating.
I don’t particularly miss anything apart from cheese, so if anyone has any great alternatives, PLEASE let me know!
